I've owned many scanners: flatbed, photo, and all-in-ones, this scanner is the priciest but I am glad to took the plunge to buy it. No crash so far after hundreds of pages scanned. The driver & scanner software for Mac has been very stable.
I have not had such issue once since the update. I used to encounter scanner flashing light problems quite frequently when using the S510 with my Windows 7 PC. Just a quick update on the usage of the scanner after updating with the OSX compatible software from Fujitsu. Our just real gripe is that the document feeder’s 10-sheet capacity (less if you are scanning pictures or slim card) is a bit miserly.Good to hear you can re-use the old gears. Scan quality is also excellent, and you can boost quality at the expense of speed if you wish. Ten 15x10cm pictures scanned as color JPEGs in one min, 2 secs and one min, 12 secs precisely. In our tests, a 20-page, one-sided text document was checked to PDF in 3 mins, 32 secs under mains power, and simply over 8 mins under USB. The packed Cardiris OCR application allows you to scan to editable Word and Stand out files, it can produce searchable PDFs, and its Duplex feature checks both sides of a file with one go through the scanner. When you have the software installed, it is straightforward to use.
It is small and light enough to shape your luggage and used with your notepad at that necessary business conference. The ScanSnap S1300 can be powered through the mains or USB (2 ports required). If you regularly scan documents or extensive picture collections, it could show its healthy worth without ever leaving your office or homework desk.
